Military Jobs to Civilian Resumes in less than 1-minute
A custom AI model that translates military jobs to civilian resume drafts
The civilian resume writing pain point
Transitioning veterans endure a lot of pain crafting their first civilian resume/CV despite practical transition resources.
From a tech perspective, many resume-building solutions (not all) are one-size-fits-all, outdated, or time-consuming to use for your first resume draft.
The first thing I do when working with transitioning veterans is re-write their entire first draft. Even with ChatGPT, this first revision takes me at least two hours. It is time consuming to add publicly available information, re-construct bullets using various frameworks like Google’s XYZ, and identify realistic areas to quantify impact or results.
Then, I share a Google Doc for collaborative revision, which can take days or weeks, depending on both party’s availability and motivation, if I’m being honest.
The civilian resume writing AI solution
The civilian resume writing pain point and jobs to be done frictions are why we developed a custom AI Model Military Translator (GPT).
We also synced GPT development with our current MVP web app iteration to accelerate internal experiments, external feedback, and validated learning.
Military Translator version 1
Our first version helps transitioning veterans:
Draft a one-page (1) civilian resume with one click (1) and one input (1) in less than 1- minute (1).
Your first resume draft
The one-page draft aims to be your master resume that can be revised in 1–2 hours and eventually tailored to specific jobs. The good thing about our GPT is that future iterations will have exponentially more domain-specific knowledge, reducing revision time overall.
What’s next with the VeteranGPT web app?
VeteranGPT is designed to level the playing field for all veterans when it comes to using AI to help change careers.
It will have the same benefits for resume draft generation, plus a pre-formatted document export feature. It will also not require a ChatGPT plus account or costs ranging from $50 to $600 or higher for full-service packages, as much as $1200.
The next version of VeteranGPT will also have a resume tailoring feature where you copy/paste in the job description, similar to existing solutions. The differentiation is time-saving and efficient resume management when drafting multiple resumes for multiple jobs.
Lastly, from the GPT experiments, we learned that we need to make your resumes:
- More concise and engaging
- Multi-role
- More impactful with quantifiable metrics involving readiness, equipment management (accountability), and talent management, including well-being and fitness, as a few examples
