Feed your faith and your fears will starve to death.

It’s about midnight, and my heart is heavy after flipping through many TV channels from the BBC, to Sky News, then Aljazeera to CNN and Channels TV. The shed loads of bad news and grip of the spirit of fear over the nations of the world is crazy.

I listened to President Trump and his leadership team talking about data models and what the predictions look like for the citizens of the United States. PM Boris Johnson equally warned of more stringent lockdown measures, when the current situation can drive an ordinary person to insanity as it is.

Then I switched off the TV and flipped over to Twitter; maybe I could find some sort of solace and calm from the storm, sadly it was littered with tweets and posts that will multiply your doubts and increase your fears. After reading a few tweets, including a twitter thread stating that Africa will be the epicentre of #covid19 because the nations of Africa are not anywhere equipped, talk less of preparing to deal with the pandemic.

I then decided to say a word of prayer because that is how I get my calm and sanity and luckily, I stumbled on a live prayer broadcast. Yes, the timing was right. We prayed for leaders, nations, frontline workers, people who have lost or will yet lose loved ones, and that God should stay the hands of #covid19 pandemic.

Why am I telling you this? Well, I’m telling you this because during the prayers I got a word and I think it’s quite profound.

“Feed your faith and starve your fears”. Simple and yet profound, isn’t it?

While it is good to keep abreast of current affairs across the world, it is equally essential to be conscious of the significant effect of the information we are being fed with from these media platforms. The lockdown even makes it more impactful and more influential within our subconscious minds. Before long, the terrific news and dreadful information become our reality because they are registered in our subconscious minds by the power of repetition.

Here is a question I think everyone should ask as we go by our day to day activities online or offline.

“Is this feeding my faith or my fears?”

Secondly, it is essential to find tools, resources and information that will feed your faith and enthusiasm for living amidst all the doom and gloom we are faced with on a minute by minute basis. We must also put these tools, Information and resources on repeat mode as well to override the effect of the fearful information registered in our subconscious minds.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Scriptures — I have found the Bible to be one of the most profound books about courage, faith and victorious living.
  • Positive confessions — Put this on repeat mode as you go by your day to day activities.
  • Meditation — I guess this one is self-explanatory, but I will say do this consistently.
  • Music — you can find a type of music that inspires or lifts your spirit and keep it playing as you go about your day. You can even dance 💃 as a form of therapy. I’m planning to do more of dancing this season personally.

Let me wrap up with this scripture that summarises this message:

“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” — Romans 1:17 KJV

The key is in the second that part says:

“… as it is written, the just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:17b

We all need faith to overcome and live beyond these dangerous times.

Feed your faith, starve your fears!
