For the longest time

I wrote this song many, many years ago, during a time when I was overwhelmed by self-doubt, especially about my English. It was a way for me to process feelings I couldn’t put into words directly, and honestly, I never thought I’d share it with anyone. But thanks to my wife, Estela, who always encourages me to take risks and embrace my imperfections, I finally decided to record it and post it here.

The theme of the song revolves around longing, self-discovery, and the quiet struggles we often carry inside. It’s about wandering through life feeling a bit lost, searching for meaning, for love, for a dream — sometimes one that feels just out of reach. At its core, though, it’s a hopeful song. It speaks to the realization that even in moments of uncertainty, there’s something — someone — worth holding onto.

It’s a simple song, but it’s deeply personal. Not just because of when I wrote it, but because of what it represents — a moment of honesty with myself. Even now, I know my English isn’t perfect. I still have an accent, and I write with a lot of my Brazilian identity shining through. But you know what? That’s me. And this song is me, too.

So here it is. An imperfect creation, full of imperfections and feelings that I’ve carried for years. Hope it resonates with you — or doesn’t. Either way, I’m proud to finally let it out into the world.

Lyrics:

I’ve been wandering down the road
Making sure my head is high
And though that there’s not much that I can do
I know that all my dreams belong to you
For the longest time

Well, time, it is a wonder
That we can turn our backs
And pretend that there’s nothing much to do
Cause all my dreams, they do belong to you
For the longest time

For the longest time
I’ve been wandering with nothing in my head

For the longest time
I’ve been searching for a dream I never had

For the longest time
I couldn’t find the love that was just there

For the longest time
I might find that I’m not dead
