Web GIS
I responded to a question on “How does Web-GIS work?”, so I thought to share the answer more elaborately.
The Web-GIS is a much more flexible aspect of GIS visualization than it’s static map counterpart.
The Web-GIS is simply a GIS with IT tools. It can hold dynamic data as well as displaying them dynamically. Dynamic dashboards could be created with it for enhanced operations management.
The Web-GIS is sometimes referred to as a Web Mapping Application, it has the ability to capture and store spatial data into a spatial database for adequate database management, It could be built into a native app, or embedded into your website, etc.
Web-GIS is the future of GIS, it enhances all the GIS capabilities like surveillance, flood control systems, early warning systems for natural disasters, navigation systems, security, change detection, site selection, land evaluation, pandemic management and control, among others.
A very common and simple product of Web GIS is the Google Map on your mobile device or laptop.
