A Perfect Goodbye

By: Victoria Podgursky

He is the lost-and-found bin of my heart
Serving my predilection for masochism
And teaching me to endure anonymity
Purveying various cavities of my character with holotropic euphemisms
Beguiling me into a subconscious catharsis
I imagined his sincerity the way he imagined my insubordination
Haunted my insecure conceit he pulverized my ego
Perforating my heart with premeditated affection
Galvanized mediocrity was his kryptonite
I was too ordinary to be loved
