This happened to me. Amazon locked my account and subsequently account on Comixology, and all my digital purchases were lost to me. Did they have a valid reason? Yes. I live in a region that is now under US sanctions. But that was OK for Amazon for 4 years when I continued to buy digital stuff from them, then BAM, “we can’t deal with you” despite more than 10 years of history. So you can get cut off at any point from digital service provider and lose access to something you already paid for. Some of those books cost as much as paper books but now I have nothing to show for it.
