Dobby came across my Facebook feed. Big scared eyes, a tiny brown chocolate chi. She was on the euthanasia list. She had a lot of interest, but of everyone who met, none would take her.

How does perfection get passed over? She’s absolutely beautiful. A chocolate purebred chi with the softest fur. My mother wanted to finally get a small dog and Dobby would be hers.

We drove hours to meet her while I was embroiled in some drama with a fake rescue person terrorizing me, while my daughter was in the hospital. Yes, I meant business.

She was scared…

You know how you “just know” something, even if you can’t prove it? Some call it the sixth sense. Women for years have called it intuition. As a reasonable, logical person (at least that’s what I tell myself), I tend to lean toward rationality and science. Proof and numbers provide me solace from the murkiness of unfounded accusations, feeling and emotions.

A quick way to no-win relationship argument is (IMHO), “I feel like you may be doing things behind my back.” Nothing like setting the other side on alert, if they are doing unspoken betrayals behind one’s back. …

Write pages. Write to better understand yourself and the world around you. The wisdom is conventional enough, although I’m not sure if it’s celebrity has grown the phrase to cliché status yet.

I’ve held a life-long struggle with writing. Many thoughts pass through my head on any given day. Thoughts that would surely convict me, or at minimum give the impression of a “bad person”. Amusing thoughts, musings, I call them. Like when a man calls me the B-word and asks if I’m going to call the cops on him. As though he was the first ever person to call…

Difficult Conversations and the Art of Over-thinking

Someone (alias provided to protect his reputation) farted on me today while sleeping. It’s normal. I get it. We all fart. So… why did I go through a see-saw of emotions while weighing the options of bringing it up in my head? The fart lasted less than minute. I ran through whether to bring it up for what seemed to be several minutes, if not hours.

Is this important enough to bring up? If so, will it start a fight? How can I deliver it in a way that doesn’t cause a rift…

Yes, you’ve read correctly. I’ve become a redundancy. Well, it wasn’t the way she phrased it, but the message was there. Even though I had excelled at my role, the organization determined they could cut costs by eliminating my position. We had some form of a, “It’s not you, it’s us” discussion and decided to part ways as “friends”.

It wasn’t a surprise. It had been a tough road ever since I joined the company. Perhaps the toughest I’ve ever faced in my career. I was in a program that had lost money for several years. …

The SXSW festival (sxsw.com) just finished. Every year, the festival brings innovators, rising stars and big names across several industries to have those crucial conversations about the state of society, emerging trends, and ideals.

People who created history, discuss their ideas for what the future should/will look like. This year, some of the most recognized speakers include Elon Musk, Melinda Gates, and Ethan Hawke.

During this time, Austin was also under attack by a serial bomber, now known as Mark Anthony Conditt. His package bombs killed two African American men, and injured two Caucasian men. …
