When it comes to the platform you spend the most time on, which social platform comes to mind? This article discusses why Facebook is not a favorite among the younger generation, specifically teens. While every other age group actively uses Facebook more than any other social platform, teens have been using Facebook less and less since February. Interestingly enough, they favor Snapchat the most. It is believed that the creative and instantaneous aspect of snapchat is what drew the younger crowd to so actively use it, while older generations find no use for it. A critical aspect of the app compared to Facebook is it’s privacy, in terms of a disappearing photo.

It is predicted that this year 16.4 million teens will be using Snapchat while 11.6 will be using Facebook. Seeing Snapchat’s massive success, it is no wonder that both Facebook and Instagram have copied Snapchat’s idea of creating 24-hour stories as well as being able to edit and send pictures to individuals. However, being a user of all three apps, it is interesting to learn that Snapchat still remains dominant among teens despite other app’s efforts to have the same media sharing tool on their platform.

I believe Snapchat’s success opens a big opportunity for potential advertisers attempting to reach a teenage crowd. While Snapchat does include features that display advertisements, I believe there is still more potential that can be found in it’s future. I feel that with the advancement of augmented reality, Snapchat could be on it’s way to creating virtual worlds that could contain advertisement.
