FINALLY we get a statement from Trump himself that he believes President Obama was born in the United States. Of course, we don’t get any acknowledgement of his previous enthusiastic birtherism, we don’t get any “I was wrong” admission, etc.

We do get a lie, though. Hey — what kind of Trump statement would it be without a lie? And that’s the lie that “ Hillary Clinton, in her campaign of 2008, started the birther controversy”. That statement, which Trump has made on a number of occasions, has been well debunked by PolitiFact, by FactCheck.org, and was given four Pinocchios by the Washington Post.

But that doesn’t stop Trump from continuing to repeat the lie, or his followers from lapping it up.
