I believe you are missing the point of feminism. Just as Merriam-Webster believe that Conway was missing the definition of it. So who do you agree with — Merriam-Webster, or Conway? Conway, in her diatribe against feminism, is setting up a straw man (a false definition of feminism) and knocking it down.

Let’s examine what Conway actually said.

“One thing that’s been a little bit disappointing and revealing — and that I hope will get better — is it turns out a lot of women just have a problem with women in power. You know this whole sisterhood, this whole let’s go march for women’s rights, just constantly talking about what women look like or what they wear, or making fun of their choices or presuming that they’re not as powerful as the men around, this presumptive negativity about women in power is very unfortunate.”

OK, in the first place, feminists don’t have a problem with women in power. I said that in my initial post. We admire and respect women in power. Unless they’re not qualified for the “power” position they hold (as in Conway’s case).

In the second place, there’s nothing wrong with marching for what you believe in. Conservatives do this, too.

In the third place, there are some women (as well as men) who are obsessed about what women look like or what they wear, but that has nothing to do with feminism.

In the fourth place, feminists do not presume that women are less than the men around them. We do notice when women are not TREATED as equals when they are in equal positions with men.

And in the fifth place, our “negativity” about Conway isn’t because she’s awesome and we’re jealous, or threatened, or whatever. It’s because she thinks she’s awesome and she’s not. As I have pointed out in many of my posts, with examples.
