I have a feeling that Trump’s Arizona speech on immigration has already been written, complete with references to “President Nieto said” in a meeting that hasn’t happened yet. It’s not like Trump feels any obligation to be truthful.

President Nieto probably wants to spend some time giving Trump a first-hand lesson in what it’s going to be like working with Mexico. On walls, on trade, on immigration — on all issues. And he’ll want Trump to know that Mexico is more than just a political prop.

But it won’t make any difference. Trump is going to lie and say what he wants to say in Arizona. Regardless of what happens with his meeting with Nieto.

Which is why Nieto might have been wise to make this a not-so-private meeting.
