I suspect there are a great many “Republican families” such as this woman describes who are just okey-dokey fine with the Republican agenda as long as it doesn’t hurt them personally in any way. Do away with welfare and all financial assistance programs? No problem (unless I lose my job or my home and I need some temporary help). Gut environmental regulations? No problem (as long as I don’t personally get poisoned). Keep Mexicans and Muslims out of the country? You bet (as I am neither Mexican nor Muslim). Make it as difficult as possible for a woman to get an abortion? Of course (unless I need one). Allow discrimination against gay people, transgender people, or anyone else considered to be “sinners”? Absolutely (as long as I’m not discriminated against).

Until the Republicans do something that personally affects a “Republican family” in a negative way, the “Republican family” doesn’t really care what happens to everybody else.

I’m sympathetic to this woman’s medical issues, but I hope she is now seeing Republicans in a different light.
