I think the last person with their own television show to openly shill for a Presidential candidate (that I know of) was Oprah Winfrey, in 2008. She made no secret of her support for Barack Obama.

However, there were a couple of stark differences between her and Hannity.

First, she only interviewed Obama (and Michelle) on her show once, and that was before he announced his candidacy. Once he did announce, Oprah said she would not have him or any other candidate on the show during the campaign, because it was well known that she supported Obama, and would not be seen as objective.

Second, Oprah’s show was not a news show, nor was it on a cable news network. There was no expectation that she be “fair and balanced”.

What Hannity is basically doing is handing Trump millions of dollars worth of free advertising.
