I’m assuming that Trump is limited in the number of deportations much in the way Obama was — constrained by the funding devoted to the ICE in the federal budget.
Only Obama figured that if he could only get rid of 300,000 to 400,000 a year, he was going to go for the immigrants that we least wanted in this country — the dangerous criminals.
Trump just wants to go for the ones easiest to get, because he’s looking for speed. Which means going after the ones who are law-abiding and following the rules.
In what world does this make sense? The criminals we want to get rid of will stay under the radar, and the ones we least feel the need to get rid of will get deported. Guess what will happen? The number of immigrants making themselves known and checking into ICE offices will nosedive, as word gets out that this means deportation. Is this smart?
And all so Trump can point to how quickly he can get undocumented immigrants deported. His constant need to be a “winner” is creating a wide path of destruction.
