I’m not even certain that these politicians represent Christians, except for the Christian political groups who give them money (like Family Research Council).

Most evangelicals are just exploited for their votes (easily done with a lot of anti-abortion and anti-gay rhetoric), and once elected, Republicans in Congress couldn’t care less about them. Pretty much like the way they treat every other average American.
