This isn’t surprising. Trump regards science as some sort of enemy (because scientific research brings us pesky evidence of climate change, effects of pollutants in our air and water, etc.), so the last thing he wants is for scientific research to get any funding whatsoever.

Trump would like for us to be on the same scientific research level as, say, Papua New Guinea. I guess that’s part of “Making America Great Again”.
