DO YOU ‘KNOW’ GOD?
Hello Saints! Thank you for clicking on the link and reading again, I really appreciate you all.
Today’s topic has been on my mind for a while now (actually, just this week). I have been meditating on Ephesians 1: 17–21 and verse 17 says;
‘and ask the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, to give you the Spirit, who will make you wise and reveal God to you, so that you will know him’.
While reading this, the Holy Spirit asked me if I knew God. That question made me pause and reflect on a lot of things. Then the Holy Spirit showed me from scriptures, people who knew God. He gave me a lot of examples but I’ll be sharing just two with us today.
The first example is the great patriarch Abraham. So here’s what happened; Abraham is 75 years old and he still lives in his village called Haran with his wife and extended family. At this point, Abraham did not have a child. Then one beautiful, quiet, sunny afternoon while Abraham is relaxing under the shade of a tree away from the noise of living with so many people, he hears a voice. This voice tells him to leave his fathers house to a land the voice will show him. Abraham hears this, stands up and goes behind the tree to check who is speaking, he doesn’t see anyone and he realizes that God just spoke to him. Immediately, Abraham goes into the house and tells his wife, Sarah that God just spoke and they have to leave to an unknown destination. Sarah, being a submissive and dutiful wife doesn’t argue with her husband, rather she starts packing and the next day they left Haran for an unknown destination because Abraham heard a voice.
That was the story of Abraham (my abridged version, lol). It’s 2022, if someone meets you and tells you that a friend of his\hers had this experience and left for an unknown destination, won’t you conclude that such a person is mad? But you see, Abraham didn’t mind the consequences of this drastic action, he didn't care what people were going to say because I’m very sure that the village of Haran had professional community gossip. Abraham didn’t care because he knew God.
Abraham was dead to self. Only a dead man can do something so drastic. That was a suicide mission but Abraham did it and he didn’t die. That’s an important thing to note; Abraham did not die. Rather, in Genesis 13:2 (GNB);
‘Abram was a very rich man, with sheep, goats and cattle, as well as silver and gold’
Wow! Abraham left Haran in chapter 12 and by chapter 13, he was very rich. This reminds me of what the bible says in Daniel 11:32b (KJV);
’… but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.’
How well you know God determines how much you will do for Him. Read that again and again until it sinks into your heart.
I will love to continue writing but this is becoming too long so we’ll continue next week.
