Contempt by Design:

Empathy in design has always been about people, with people and for people. Human-centered design (even with mindful empathy) inherently makes the rest of the world (nature, ecosystem, the invisible) less important. Design always has to start with people. It is always about mitigating and negotiating after that. That to me is selfish, not close to empathy or compassion.
