Of late, I’ve seen many people get referred and placed into good positions. Until now I believed that having a network is optional. Doesn’t look like anymore. And recently when I was visiting the “Starmark” bookstore in Phoenix Market City (Velachery), I came across the book: “The Networking Book” by Simone Anderson. Its a light read without any heavy gibberish..

Here is a 1 Minute learning from this book that you could benefit from:

  1. Have an extensive, efficient, organic network. Share your knowledge and resources generously with that network. Remember: Give before you take.
  2. Follow the VCP Model for success via networking. Visibility + Credibility = Profitability. First be visible, then share knowledge and resources to become credible. Once you have established credibility, you automatically start deriving benefits from the network.
  3. Be at the centre of those networks that are of your interest / passion / dreams. As the author put it: “If you want to be wise, look for wise people. If you want to be rich, look for rich people. If you wan to be a great business person, look for great business people.

Below are a few one-liners that I couldn’t resist from sharing:

  • While a network is something you establish, networking is when you develop and make use of your network.
  • “The networker — connected man — outmatches thinking man.” ~ Unknown
  • Focus should be shifted from “how can you help me?” to “how can I help you?”.
  • “When people are nervous they speak faster. Do the opposite, slow down and pause and your audience will be on again.” ~ Victor Borge
  • “ If you doubt yourself, others will doubt you as well.”
  • People take an interest in people who are interested in them.
  • Be the best version of yourself at all times.

Now that was the theory part. Let’s start practicing these and reap benefits of having an healthy, active and organic network.

Do comment and let me know if you are looking for 1 Minute learning on a Book of your interest.
