And it’s fun to play with and dress (or at least accessorize — e.g. your misbegotten Borsalino) as all those versions of ourselves, adventurer or red carpet royalty. That of course is what makes fashion fashion. Because truth to tell, we are all those possibilities and none of them at once. What you’re really asking is what does the authentic self look like.

Fashion is transient while that thing called style, as an expression of authenticity, is perennial. My style is part old hippie/part hipster (the hat part). Your style has its own hat waiting somewhere, too.
