Case in point. When my good male buddy was recently flat on his back with a hot pad against a pulled lumbar our texts flew back and forth. They began with me offering a couple of my favorite Yoga assists to gently release those overworked back muscles and ease their soreness. Both always effective with students. Though he’s into Yoga, he politely declined, saying that while he appreciated it, all he wanted to do was lie there and try to get some rest. Translation: leave me alone. I didn’t ask for your help, did I? While the exchange left my well meaning ego feeling rather rejected I had to realize that I do have to respect what he most needed right then was space.
