What your excellent article serves to remind is that Hollywood sitcoms more often tend to reflect the attitudes entrenched within the culture rather than exemplify a higher path through and beyond those attitudes. And it’s the rueful recognition of ourselves in those Same Old Spaces (SOS) that gets the laughs. No wonder a wise old comic once said that a laugh is really a scream for help. We’ve all been there. Or at least we were back in the ‘90s.
Now we can look back and see with different eyes and hearts what might have been and what could yet be. A sitcom in which the woman decides on both men, the two men shake on it and they all walk through Central Park arm in arm in arm is the one I want to watch.
