Phan Thiet, located in Binh Thuan province, has always been a leading tourist destination in Vietnam as well as the central coast. Not only possessing beautiful natural scenery, this land is also a cultural tourism destination. For the most self-sufficient Phan Thiet trip, you should take time to learn some features of this land. The average temperature in Phan Thiet ranges from 26 to 27 degrees, bringing us the typical tropical climate, sunny and windy. With the pleasant climate of Phan Thiet, tourists can visit any time of the year. However, I highly recommend June and around the end of August. Since at this time we can avoid the peak heat of April and May and rainy season barrier to the journey.

Main transportation

There are quite a few means to help you travel around Phan Thiet, such as cars, train, taxi, bus … It is depending on the distance from where you start as well as your own need.

  • Taxi: Using a taxi to travel around tourist attractions is a good option as you can shorten your travel time and visit more places.

You can rent a motorbike from your hotels or cafes along Ham Tien area. If you are interested in discovering life in coastal fishing villages, you can opt for a homestay, enjoying cheap and fresh seafood, or find new exciting outdoor activities. I was also surprised by the hospitality of people here when I chose homestay.

Famous attractions

  • Rom Island: a wild mountain in Mui Ne — Phan Thiet, a tourist destination of this region. The area around Rom Island has many beaches with clear blue water, smooth waves, suitable for group activities such as Rom Island 1, Rom Island 2, Thuy Trang …
  • Suoi Tien: Visiting Rom Island, guests should not miss Suoi Tien located nearby. Suoi Tien is a small waterfall with an eye-catching orange color, unlike any stream in Vietnam. Next to the stream are the natural stone hills and beautiful sandy valley.
  • Ghenh Island: Just one kilometer away from Phan Thiet, Ghenh Island is a beautiful oasis explored recently in the Mui Ne tourist complex. The road to the island is rugged with small rocky ridges, for those who easily get seasick, I suggest you should be well prepared.
  • Mui Ne fishing village: Located 3km from Mui Ne town, Mui Ne fishing village is a unique stop for those who want to know more about the daily life in coastal fishing villages. Tourists can experience the work of a real fisherman, and buy fresh seafood at extremely cheap prices. At the entrance, you can see hundreds of colorful fishing boats anchored on the water. And not far from the port is a small colorful market with the peaceful beauty of the surrounding. I get my seafood from here and it was delicious, you can actually taste the freshness.

  • Phu Quy Island: An attractive tourism thanks to its wonderful natural conditions and many historical sites worth visiting. It offers a vast blue of trees, grass lawns and ancient tranquility which was recognized as historical cultural relics, such as Linh Quang Pagoda, Cao Cat Pagoda … In addition, the island has many beaches and beautiful coral reef.
  • Sand dune In Mui Ne: Near the area of Rom Island, one of the scenic spots that will capture your eyes is sandhill Mui Ne. Not only the beautiful shape but the color of the sand also attract many visitors with its unique featured (up to 18 different colors). A perfect place for capturing artistic photos if I have to say it to myself. On the sandhill, guests can rent a board to play sand slide, it is only about 5,000 VND per sheet.

Must-Try Delicacy

  • Seafood: If you want to eat fresh seafood at a cheap price, then go to the beach to pick up boats which just landing. Or wandering along Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, there are many restaurants selling fresh seafood.
  • Melo Melo Salad: Melo Melo salad is a simple dish, but not many visitors appreciate it. Melo Melo is a kind of fresh snail, its meat is naturally sweet. The snail after being cooked, cut yarn, mixed with bacon, papaya, herbs and other spices. They eat together with rice paper, vinegar, and sugar.

  • Phan Thiet Banh Can: Banh Can is a specialty Phan Thiet that you definitely have to try once visit here. It is very different from Banh Can in Saigon and Phan Rang. This dish is made from rice flour and baked in the mold like Vietnamese mini savory pancakes but not coated with a layer of fat. After the ripe cake is rinsed, put two sides together with small green onions, and served with special chanterelle and vegetable.

  • Herring Salad: Eating seafood salad is a way to enjoy the taste of Phan Thiet, especially the herring salad. Herring fish is not only available in Phan Thiet but across the Central provinces. However, herring in Phan Thiet is processed into the fish salad with a special sauce that cannot be mistaken from anywhere else. The fish sauce used in the salad is both sour and sweet thanks to tamarind juice combined with sugar, and sprinkled sesame.

Tips for traveling to Phan Thiet

  • The clothes you will need are lightweight and easy to wash. You also need to bring raincoats, umbrellas in case of sudden rain or when the sun is too bright.
  • The weather is quite hot and humid, so you should bring eyeglasses, sunscreen and mineral water to the tourist spots.
  • In addition to these places, the fish sauce factory is also a very interesting attraction in Phan Thiet, you will have a chance to taste and learn a lot from this.
  • For good and cheap snacks, you should go to Mui Ne markets and remember to bargain.
