A tale of three cities. United Nations and breakfast is the most important meal of the day
I was in Pune, India for our leadership meeting with the development team. Teams from three locations in India, Nagar, Baroda and Hyderabad and two locations in US, San Jose and Fresno were there. We had a largish contingent at a beautiful hotel in Chinchwad, Pune. Outside temperature was 91 degrees Fahrenheit when I landed, reminding me that there are three seasons in most of India, hot, hotter and hottest. Oh and the food!!!! My American colleague commented, I can’t eat any more, I have been smothered by so much good food. The hotel had scrumptious made to order breakfast with Indian, American, Continental and Asian dishes. Indulgence at its very best. We had 16 hour days but the breakfast got us going in the correct direction.
Next up I travelled to Barcelona for the mobile world congress. If there is a true United Nations, this meeting is it. Massive 9 halls with over 75,000 attendees and country pavilions, companies and people from all nationalities coexisting. Many major ceos were there. I personally caught a glimpse of ceos of Facebook, Google, Qualcomm, Sprint and a few others. The breakfast at our hotel was classic continental self serve. A few croissants, coffee tea, cereal, milk, scrambled eggs and a toaster for bread. Run of the mill to say the least.
After that I arrived in Chicago for one of the oldest and the biggest dental shows on earth, the Chicago Midwinter show. The outside temperature was in the 20s Fahrenheit when I arrived with the winds gusting at 30 miles an hour with snow showers. Truly a windy city with bone chilling wind chill amplified cold.
All the great organizations of the US dental industry and many multinationals are here. Large contingent of Fortune 500 companies which have something to do with the dental industry. From oral health, to payments, to manufacturing and distribution.
Back to my favorite food of the day; breakfast. The breakfast buffet here is more elaborate, it being a Chicago downtown hotel and there are some great choices but I am still remembering the endless variety and four different worlds of cooking styles I feasted on in Pune.
