Oasis, the Manchester based band led by the Gallagher brothers, Noel and Liam, have strung together great songs over the years. Although the band had dealt with many line up changes over the years as well as experimenting with various genres, the one thing that remained constant during their time was the eccentric relationship between the two siblings that kept them going, even at their hardest times. Putting their differences behind them for the sake of the band, the music always came first, and it can be seen, or rather heard with their songs and explosive live performances.

Oasis' original line up, from left to right; Tony McCarroll (drums), Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs (guitar), Noel Gallagher (guitar, vocals), Liam Gallagher (vocals), Paul 'Guigsy' McGuigan (bass)

Here are my top 5 Oasis albums ranked from best to worst

1. DEFINITELY MAYBE (1994)

This album is arguably one of my favourite albums of the ‘90s. It’s their debut album which features songs such as 'Supersonic’, 'Columbia’, 'Live Forever' and 'Slide Away' to name a few and is one of the very few albums by any band that made me listen to every track over and over again, a true masterpiece. Sadly, it’s the only album that features drumming by the original member, Tony McCarroll, who got sacked after. He had almost perfect timing and his drumming was so simple yet effective, complimenting the songs beautifully. His work on the track 'Bring It On Down' is something to adore. 10/10.

2. STANDING ON THE SHOULDER OF GIANTS (2000)

Their fourth studio album comes second on my list mainly because of the song 'Gas Panic!’ which had me replaying it for days. It’s an incredible track which really shows off Liam’s vocal range and Noel’s song writing ability . It’s not just the one song I really like though, even the album opener 'F*ckin' in the Bushes' and 'Go Let It Out' are great tracks thay completed this psychedelic rock album.9/10.

3. DIG OUT YOUR SOUL (2008)

After two disappointing albums, for Oasis' standards, ‘Heathen Chemistry' (2002) and ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’ (2005) came ‘Dig Out Your Soul' that brought back the signature Oasis style I love. My favourite track from this album is 'The Shock of the Lightning’ due to Liam’s absolutely unique vocals, as well as great drumming by Zak Starkey. It also features other great songs like 'Bag it Up' and 'I’m Outta Time’. This was the last album the band recorded together and listening to ‘I’m Outta Time' really makes me feel nostalgic, kinda like something you’d hear at the end of a great movie. 9/10.

4. THE MASTERPLAN (1998)

The fact that a compilation album filled with b sides that couldn’t make it to their respective albums is on this list should tell you what kind of band Oasis is. They just do not write bad songs. Songs like 'Acquiesce' and the self titled song 'The Masterplan' really make you wonder why they didn’t make it to their studio albums. This album also features a live version of a cover by the iconic British band, the Beatles, 'I Am The Walrus’. Great album. 8/10.

5. (What’s The Story) Morning Glory (1995)

This list wouldn’t be complete without the follow-up album to ‘Definitely Maybe’s' '(What’s The Story) Morning Glory. Featuring one of the most popular songs in the world, 'Wonderwall' , some might say (excuse the pun), that it’s actually their best work. The first album featuring their second drummer Alan White, brought a change to their style, which personally I’m not a fan of, when compared to albums like 'Definitely Maybe' and 'Dig Out Your Soul’, that have heavy distorted guitar riffs and loud drumming. It’s a great album nevertheless and will always be regarded as one of the greatest albums in rock history as it introduced the world to Oasis. 8/10.

Thanks for reading. I’ll be making more top 5 albums by my favourite bands in the future. :D
