Sadness is Poison

size: 40 x 50 cm, Montreal 2015

ای دل غم این جهان فرسوده مخور

Yo, don’t stay sad for this aged and boring world.

Hé, ne porte pas le poids de ce vieux monde triste.

Omar Khayyam 1048–1131 [wikipedia]

a bit of context

He was a Persian mathematician, astronomer, philosopher, and poet, who is widely considered to be one of the most influential scientists of the middle ages. He is the author of one of the most important treatises on algebrawritten before modern times, the Treatise on Demonstration of Problems of Algebra (1070). He also contributed to a calendar reform.

Ironically, FitzGerald’s translations reintroduced Khayyám to Iranians “who had long ignored the Neishapouri poet”.
