Api marketplaces and Service ecosystems…

I was clearly skeptical of the blog post by Esmeralda Swartz when I saw it’s topic on Twitter: “Internet of Things Leads to the API Economy By @EsmeSwartz | @ThingsExpo #IoT #API”. The very idea of API Economy independent of the whole Interconnected Service Ecosystem approach of Digitalization seemed dubious at a glance.

The API Economy is not just an exchange for makers and #IoT providers though. Its the marketplace we service providers direly need to enable that inter-connectiveness transparently to the users. Wether it happens as a single marketplace like AppStore or NPM (I just lumped packet managers and commerciall app-stores to same category, neat, eh?) or as a common and reasonable frameworks like consistent REST derived standard for the devices and sensors does not matter.

I don’t think I need to wait for long for such a marketplace to emerge. There is a clear need for one — and the player’s who build around the marketplace will instantly get the inter-connectivity benefits of digitalization (read, exponential efficiency bonus). Now if I only knew where to look for the first iterations of such a meta-service…
