LEGAL COMPLIANCE AND DISCIPLINE AND GRIEVANCE (CASE 2)

An employer has the right to use disciplinary actions against an emplyer if they are stopping them from making a profit. Still laying off employees is a hard thing to do here in Finland, the laws are a bit stricter in the U.S. though, according to the book.

Case 2a)

In this case, the officer should naturally be laid off, there is no other option. Sexual harrassment is wrong, whether it happened at the workplace or anywhere else. This case is a very extreme example of an employee behaving like they should not.

Case 2b)

Once again, employees can be laid off, if they are limiting the company’s ability to make a profit. If a waiter/waitress writes some nasty things on a receipt, it is for sure that the customer will never return to the same restaurant. This will naturally cause a big loss of profit and that is why these employees could be laid off. These kinds of things could be prevented though, through recruitment and selection and training.

Case 2c)

The Flint case is an example of the company doing wrong against the employee. This can naturally lead to lawsuit, and the family has a full right to do so, it is almost workplace bullying.
