Know About Study Visa Process for Canada

If you intend to pursue your higher studies in Canada, then you need to know in details about the study visa process in Canada. You need to obtain a Canadian Study permit, which serves as a Canadian student’s visa, for covering your study exceeding six months.

Student can apply for a Canadian Study visa online or through paper application that is obtainable from the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). You can get further help from the nearest Visa Application Center (VAC).

The study visa procedure Canada includes the following steps to be followed:

1) Attend a counseling session with your local higher education consultants and find out your options related to study destination, courses, recommended institutions and the fee structure. Then, you are to obtain a letter of acceptance from an institute in Canada imparting higher education.

2) Student’s get Canadian study visa application form from the official website of the Citizenship and Immigration Canada or by contacting the Canadian embassy or consulate in your home country. If you are from a designated country, you will be required to obtain a temporary residence permit.

3) For getting your application package from the CIC website, you will be required to answer to a few questions about yourself that would establish the minimum qualifying criteria for issuance of application.

4) On your eligibility being established, you will receive online, a personal checklist, valid for 60 days that would enable you to Study in Canada. Keep a printed copy of this page that shows information such as application guide, estimated amount of fees, and list of documents to be submitted along with the application.

5) For submission of your application online, create a My CIC account in which you will be required to enter your personal checklist code. Thereafter, you will receive your personal document checklist after which you will be allowed to upload and send your documents to CIC. After completing the documents and applications form and on payment of the required fees, you are to submit your completed application form to CIC.

You will be required to comply with the following additional procedure for study visa in Canada.

1) Applicants from some countries may be required to submit the biometrics; fingerprints and photograph.

2) You will be required to undertake a medical examination by a doctor approved by the Canadian government. A list of approved panels of doctors can be had from http://www.cic.gc.ca/pp-md/pp-list.aspx. You will then get a receipt IMM1017 for medicals which you will be required to submit at the time of submitting your visa application.

3) You will have to provide evidence of purchase of a special Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from a participating Canadian financial institution which is currently, Scotia Bank only; for an amount of $10,000 CAD for the first year living expenses during your study at Canada.

4) Alternatively, you can submit a copy of the receipt for an amount equivalent to your first year of tuition fees and a copy of an educational loan from an Indian Chartered Bank, amounting to $10,000.
