Spoils of spring

The spoils of spring are

To walk barefoot on barren blooming moss

Watch the wild narcissi unfold their flower

Look at the poplar setting new leaves

Touch the still cold sand moist from dew

See the fresh green grasses topple the soil

View on the buckthorns buds rolling out

Scent the perfume of honey laden bloom

Observe the inert power from the willow

Which branches now set root in the ground

Look on the mayflowers still minute knobs

Sense the new energy being absorbed

By all that grows on light and

Captured carbon dioxide

To fuel the chlorophyll motor
