What the heck?

So something strange happened to me the other night. Due to all the recent craziness, my job is requiring me to work from home. As it’s an overnight job, I tend to see the world at strange times. No more stranger than what happened the other night. While I was working, I heard a rumble from my wall and a weird portal opened up rather quickly.

“For Public Safety, You are advised to refrain from discussion of the program for 24 hours” — Warning on Deltarune.com

Now that the advised twenty four hours are up, I’m able to post my quick/in-depth take on DELTARUNE Chapter One, the new portion of the game Toby Fox is working on (creator of the hit indie game Undertale). There are probably spoilers here for both Undertale and DELTARUNE Chapter One, so if you want to avoid any and all spoilers from both games, I’d recommend avoiding reading the following list. I’ve split this into two potions: mechanic and story. The…

Note: This post was written on 8/14/2018 around 2am central.

2064: Read Only Memories is sort of a weird title for me these days. It was revealed ealier this year that the now former CEO of Midboss, developers of the game, Matt Conn recently stepped down from his position due to previous cases of harassment. It’s a shitty story ,plain and simple, and it’s been on my mind as the Nintendo Switch version of the game is released. It’s even more on my mind after receiving a tweet from a person involved in the game. I won’t say who nor…

South by Southwest (SXSW) 2018 is well over, but I wanted to finally post some select artist highlights and closing thoughts to the whole week. In the spirit of full disclosure, a good chunk of these artists are new friends or events thrown by friends. I don’t consider this a “Best of SXSW 2018” or even a best of SXSW as a whole, but more of a sample of the events and artists I watched. This was by far the best SXSW I’ve had in years and there were too many things to write. …

PAX South 2018 is almost upon us. For most, it’s a time for new video games, some amazing cosplays, and some fun tabletop games. While I’m looking forward to all that, it’s the music that brings me to the con each year. Two of my good friends and fellow NPC Collective members will be playing the main stage: Sammus & Mega Ran. For me though, this year I’ll be hanging around the part of PAX that I feel most at home: The MAGfest Jam Space.

Some of you attending Pax South this year may not be aware, but every year…

I use “End of the Year Best Of” lists and future award shows as my way of figuring out what I missed in media. When I look back at 2017, I consumed a ton of media in various mediums. So with the start of the new year, I’m going to continue my yearly tradition of listing some of the highlights for me. So if you’re looking for something you may have overlooked, feel free to use this list to help you find something new in 2018.

Video Games

This year was a bit strange for me and video games as I played…

It’s December and you know what that means: We’re about four months away from South by Southwest (SXSW) 2018. For many, SXSW is the event to listen to the latest acts perform amazing music, check out some cool movies, and some amazing trends in interactive media. For me, it boils down to a few key events. While we wait for March to be upon us, I wanted to look back over the years and talk about my favorite music related events that happen every year during SXSW. I figured I’d start with my first music love: Japan Nite.

They Do Look Pretty

So the…

This post will only make sense to my #chatrealm friends, but I’ll do my best to explain to all.

Every Summer and Winter, the heads of podcasts like Night Attack and Cordkillers run a fantasy draft for movies. Long story short, you get an amount of money and bid on the season’s movie lineup. Whoever makes the most money wins.

Every year, myself and awesome video guy Matthew Fraiser (@blendermf) cover the draft for Night Attack in way we call the Movie Draft Minute (originally a Justin Robert Young creation). Typically the music selection is various video game music, sometimes…

Disclaimer: expect spoilers. If you trust my opinion in anyway, buy Rakuen, play the game. One of the better experiences I had this year and game that now holds a very special place in my heart.

It’s about 1:30 in the morning. I’m here at work, doing the tasks at hand. But as I play the scenes in my mind, as the sound track plays in the background, I can’t stop sobbing. I can’t stop crying. I can’t get this game out of my mind.

While every game is judged on its own, there is a common requirement I have…

It’s currently April, Spring is here, and we are weeks removed from the crazyness that is South By South West and the amazing bands from the Land of the Rising Sun. From the 80’s anime explosion that is Satellite Young to the amazing rock from The Walkings, SXSW had a great variety of Japanese Bands. Maybe you couldn’t make it. Maybe you were there, but just didn’t have the cash on hand to buy merch. Maybe there was no merch to be had. These things happen. Though it has been hard in the past to obtain Japanese music here in…
