dia-log 1: What have I learnt today?
A year ago a friend told me that I should open source all my thoughts, ideas and projects.
I’ve spent most of the last three years learning about life, happiness, well-being, living fully, startups, technology and its disruption, societal transformation, and most recently blockchain, crypto currencies, and ICOs (initial coin offerings — more about the latter ones below).

I’ve been sharing a lot of my thoughts, observations, and learnings through my Facebook account (which is private) and started my life insights through regular vlogs (video logs) here.
This is my newest experiment picking up my friend’s suggestion by sharing what I’ve been up to today. More precisely: What caught my attention and what thoughts and ideas I came across that might be interesting to you.
So here it is: My daily activity log (dia-log) no. 1:
- I started reading Angel: How to Invest in Technology Startups — Timeless Advice from an Angel Investor Who Turned $100,000 into $100,000,000 by Jason Calacanis. Great and very easy read if you’re interested to become an angel investor or just understand the startup investment space better. I was listening to the audio book whole running and did the first nine chapters out of 39 in one go. Highly recommended.
- My Facebook newsfeed provides a lot of my daily reading material. I’m lucky to be following some very connected and insightful contributors. I also “starred” the best ones of those so I get to see their content first (no beach and holiday pictures for me there). Most articles have to go into the “saved for later” category as I can’t keep up with the number of interesting articles. What caught my attention, i.e. I read, today is:
- A Harvard psychologist says people judge you based on 2 criteria when they first meet you. “People size you up in seconds, but what exactly are they evaluating?” The answer: People quickly answer two questions when they first meet you: Can I trust this person? And can I respect this person? Most people believe that competence is the more important factor but it’s actually warmth, or trustworthiness. For more, read the article.
- Why Everyone Missed the Most Mind-Blowing Feature of Cryptocurrency by Daniel Jeffries. After a brief history of the ascent of money, Daniel dives into why cryptocurrencies are changing the world. He points out that the true power of cryptocurrencies is the power to print and distribute money without a central power. It’s a great read, especially if you’re new to the space.
- For the rest of the day, and while typing this, I was watching and listening to the 100X Blockchain Investors Summit. It’s a full two days online summit (agenda) bringing together key players of the blockchain and crypto world. You can find the full replay here. I’m a strong believer that Blockchain will be just as impactful as virtual reality and artificial intelligence. It will reallocate power from the few to the many and make the world a whole lot flatter and more efficient. At the same time, the space is in a gold rush. People compare it to the internet in the 90ies with the difference that you can take a position in the space and potentially make (loose) a lot of money. I will be posting a lot more on this topic in the future. It’s absolutely fascinating.
