Why I want to go to MLH Prime: My Story

There’s a backstory to my why I would like to attend.

I’ve always been a thinker and a designer. When I was younger I used to take sheets of paper and draw the most interesting contraptions that I could think of. One day I’d draw a custom PC the next day I’d draw an elaborate, and extremely detailed, underwater bunker. The sky was the limit. My passion has always been for technology and entrepreneurship. I like to think of cool ways to solve problems or maybe even create things that people don’t even realize they had wanted. That’s always been the dream. It didn’t take me long to find my start in the tech world. During the summer of 2014 I attended my first conference, hosted by We Connect The Dots, in New York City called CreatingSTEAM. I was 15 years old and I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to run my own software/hardware development company. That’s my goal. No big deal. I had no real world experience before this event. However, this event was packed with so many sessions of information on so many different fields that I had no idea where to start afterwards. A friend I had made at the event had told me that she had applied for an Internship program run by the company that had hosted the event, We Connect The Dots, and recommenced I apply too. So I did. I figured, where better to start then at a company that focuses on teaching STEAM skills to youth? At 15 years old I got accepted to my first internship. Back then there were only a handful of us working at events we would hold. I made sure to attend every event, and I mean EVERY event. Since the first CreatingSTEAM conference back in 2014, I have attended every conference, hackathon, and ceremonial events that I have been able to. The opportunity I’ve received in return is invaluable. I’ve been invited to events such as the Grand Opening of the Microsoft Flagship Store in NYC, (as VIP), as well as participating in opening the Nasdaq Stock Exchange with Microsoft. I’ve also built up knowledge on so many programs like Unity5 and Visual Studio and languages like HTML5, JavaScript, Java, and many more. I’ve also met a variety of corporate officials and professionals in many industries of tech and business fields. The list goes on and on. The reason I am talking about this is to show the impact that attending events and hackathons, such as MLH Prime, how much of an influence it can have on a person. It inspires you to want to learn more. It has inspired me to learn as much as possible. I am a lifelong learner and I believe that attending MHL Prime can help me learn more skills and make the connections I will need to further my own career.

So that’s my backstory and why I would like to attend. I have a few ideas for projects that I am split on. I would say that a big push for me would either be in web/mobile website development or Chabot. I would like to incorporate both if possible. My main idea is to develop a personal assistant client to help with daily tasks in someone’s life. It could help you keep track and remind you of tasks you need to complete or events coming up and then help you complete them if nessicary through a chatbot platform. A more complex feature would be to help you find local companies to find products/services you would need to buy to complete a task. If you need your lawn mowing service it could find a someone local through the web or database and then call them for information on mowing your lawn. My goal would to have a custom page for each user on the web or mobile with tasks to complete as well as a Chatbot on either a custom platform or an existing one such as Facebook Messenger. I am currently studying more into this idea and feasibility and hope I could attend MHL Prime to help bring this idea to life. Thank you for reading this and I hope to hear from you soon.
