There are the news from Apple Daily and Ta Kung Pao which is related to the Mong Kok accident in February 2016. As they have the opposite politician stance of these newspaper companies, I will analysis the news by measuring the “evaluate”, “potency” and “activity” of two pair of emotional words.

The first pair of emotional words is the word for descripting whole accident.

In Apple Daily, they have used the word call “conflict”. To measure the word “conflict”, it is a neutral word that we can use for descripting a positive or negative action. It is an active word that is descripting an action. However, it is a “weak” word as it can be easily replace by the word “battle” or “clash” for stronger stand. The word “conflict” let me think the accident is rational and relatively gentle. These bring me a positive image on the activists.

In Ta Kung Pao, they have used the word call “riot”. To measure the word “riot”, it is a negative word that always use for descripting the illegal activity. It is an active word that is descripting an action. Moreover, it is a “strong” word as it is not easy to replace by other words for stronger accusation of the accident. The word “riot” let me feel the accident is irrational, illegal and harming the nation security. These bring me a negative image on the activists.

In Apple Daily, they have used the word call “protect”. To measure the word “protect”, it is a positive word that we will only use for descripting people providing help for others. It is a passive word because “protect” is mean to against the others attack but not actively attack others. Moreover, it is a “strong” word as it is not easy to replace by other words for stronger stand. The word “protect” make me think the activists are defending the value of our society and fighting for liberal right. They are benefit for public.

In Ta Kung Pao, they have used the word call “provocative” To measure the word “provocative”, it is a negative word that we will only use for descripting people making others angry by using violence or language. It is an active word because “provocative” mean to make other angry actively. Moreover, it is a “strong” word as it is not easy to replace by other words for stronger accusation of the action. The word “provocative” make me think the activists are only vent their dissatisfied of the society by the accident but not fighting for liberal right. They are not rational and harming the society security.
