Passion vs Stress

--

In his tweet below, Simon Sinek says stress and passion only differ in purpose. In a corporate setting, the organizational needs create a mission, and the personal needs foster passion.

When an employee fulfills only the organizational needs and not the personal needs stress ensues. On the contrary, when an employee fulfills only the personal needs and not the organizational needs underperformance ensues.

A good manager doesn’t simply cater to either need but steers the organizational needs toward the employees’ needs and adjusts personal needs toward the organizational needs.

Will mission ever meet passion? Not necessarily. But the closer they are aligned the less likely the employees would get burnt out and the more likely they would be self-motivated to do excellent work.
