Employees want to be managed by people who empower them, not manage every bit of their day. The better you get at hitting the right balance between oversight and autonomy, the more likely you are to win long-term fans who will advocate for you as your career progresses.

… be able to take a step back and see the bigger picture. Good managers don’t manage in the details. They are capable of diving in — and may have even earned their credibility by doing so — but they put more of their time and effort into bigger picture strategy.

In short, think of the moments where you need to be involved, and the moments where you can stand back. Then intervene with intention. (Did I just coin a corporate mantra?!?)
