Understand about main engine lubrication system

Storage tanks for lubricating oil make up the main lubrication system. They are installed in the engine room at higher altitudes to make it simple to bunker the oil. The configuration gives the system a strong head. Oil is transferred from the storage tank to the main engine’s lubricating oil sump. The engine’s major bearings, crosshead guides, guide shoes, and other components are all supplied with a lubricating oil by the main lubricating oil supply pump, which draws suction from the sump. The oil becomes heated and filthy after prolonged use. Coolers reduce the temperature of the oil to operational levels. The oil for lubrication points is delivered by the main engine lube oil pump.

Let’s discuss the main engine lubrication system:

What is Engine Lubrication?

Engine lubrication is the procedure by which corroding metal components are kept apart by the movement of a lubricant between them. Liquid lubricants are utilised in engines the most out of all types, including solid and gas lubricants. The main component of the engine is the main engine lube oil pump.

Functions of Engine Lubricating System

Engine lubrication reduces wear by tightly sealing the gap between moving parts, such as shafts, bearings, and other moving components. Because of lubrication, the moving parts are also prevented from contacting one another directly. As the valve stem moves, a certain amount of oil is allowed inside the valve stem via valve stem seals, which regulate oil consumption and lubrication in an engine.

In engines, the oil serves as a cleaning agent, carrying the dirt particle to the oil pan. Oil filters hold the tiny particles while the oil pan holds the larger ones.

Another justification for engine lubrication is how the cooling system works. Cooling the engine’s moving parts is accomplished by lubricating oil, which converts heated fluid into more excellent oil in the oil pan.

The oil forms a seal between the piston rings and the cylinder walls. Additionally, it lessens exhaust gas blowy.

Oil is placed in the space between the revolving journals and the bearing. The oil functions as a lubricant and a cushion when an approach suddenly experiences enormous loads. Oils decrease bearing wear.

Operating conditions

Any dynamic system’s parameter reflects its underlying process. Any parameter whose value deviates from the range it occupies typically will indicate a change in the system’s operation. For instance, if the oil temperature at the engine’s inlet is higher than usual, the viscosity regulator’s setting is incorrect. It is a sign of a blocked filter if the oil pressure at the engine inlet is lower than usual.

Let’s see how they can be connected to work as a system:

The hand pump moves the cylinder oil from the storage tank to the service tank. From this point, oil is gravity-fed to the lubricators powered by the engine. The main engine’s lubricating oil pump draws suction from the oil sump tank through a duplex filter. Through a cooler and an automatic backwash filter, it provides oil to the main engine. A controlled amount of oil may lubricate the valve stem as it moves in the valve guide, thanks to Valve stem seals. Through a heater, the purifier feed pump receives suction from the sump tank for lubricating oil.

Final thoughts

Finally, the above mentioned are about the main engine lubrication system. These are the work process of the main engine lubrication system. Are you searching for the best engine parts? You can buy from Garima Global Pvt. Ltd.
