A Bowl of Good News

The morning can be hard. There are a million things rushing towards you. Your News Feed, the needs of your family, your own needs, trying to keep your lawn from dying from the Texas heat (which is impossible).

Here are some truths that help me stop, take a deep breath, and rest. I hope they’ll do the same for you.

[22] The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; [23] they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. [24] “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” (Lamentations 3:22–24 ESV)

The Lord had storehouses of steadfast love and new mercies waiting for you, as he sustained you through the night and woke you up. Regardless of how you felt when your eyelids opened, this is what is true even in your current emotions.

[1] The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! [2] Clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. (Psalm 97:1–2 ESV)

The. Lord. Reigns. Phew! That’s huge. What about my future? My finances? The upcoming election? The Lord Reigns.

[6] For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, [7] for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:6–7 ESV)

If you’ve put your trust in Jesus as Lord of your life, you walk in a spirit of POWER, LOVE, and SELF CONTROL. I’m not talking about self will, I’m talking about what can only come about by the Spirit of God indwelling those who trust in Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection on their behalf.

If you’re like me then you’ll end up forgetting some of these powerful truths. Write them on note cards and put them where you’ll see them. Take 2 minutes during your lunch break and read through a few verses on your phone. Join me as I trust the Lord for his help to store up what is eternally true in my heart.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?
