Design Story: Family

What is the most important thing in your life? What is the most valuable aspect of your human experience? Who are the people you would never replace becasue they hold such an incredible influence and importance in your life that you know it wouldn’t be whole without them?
I know what you are thinking, this is all too cliché, but in your heart of hearts, you know it’s true. That’s what I was thinking while making this design, I wanted to focus on family relations and so I came to think of many circles that intersect each other.

We are four in our family, my wife, my two kids and me; so I started with 4 circles. Each intersection represents the interaction we have with each other, which in turn, has a color that represents each relationship.
Colors have a special way of sending a message. I chose the message that, in my mind, better suits my interactions with each member of my family. I took a lot of time deciding the colors, I personally changed the RGB numbers to perfectly fit what I had in mind and I continued with this until I was satisfied with the result.

Now it is easily noticeable the intersection between my wife and I, the color where all 4 circles get together, the type of interaction between my two kids individually and all other possible combinations… except, there is no intersection for 1 child with 1 parent. I actually enjoy that analogy, “we don’t exist unless we are together”.
I may be old-fashioned but I consider my family the most important gift I could ever get. I have put all my energy and time into building these relationships that will withstand time and trouble, fame and money, poverty and oblivion, happiness and health and misery and sickness. My name will be remembered for generations because of the things I teach and do with my kids… that, to me, is the source of real happiness and I thought I could do the effort to capture the sentiment in one of my designs.
