I did the same before 2 months. My battery will drain even before I start from office in the evening. As you mentioned, I also keep the messenger to have touch with friends.
I started doing this and now I have more time. I will check my phone may be couple of times in the evening. I pay full attention to my kid, playing with him, watch in playing , reading some good content.
I feel good as the time spent is worth it. I don’t spend time in reading fb news feed , that isn’t worth enough.
