Deprecating PHP 7.0 and PHP 7.1 on violinist
Starting right now it’s no longer possible to create projects using PHP 7.0 and PHP 7.1 on violinist.io.
The reason for this is that none of the versions are receiving security updates since 2019, with version 7.1 being the most recent to be unsupported with its December 2019 EOL. In other words, there are no reasons to use those versions, and it’s even less of a good idea to start a project on those versions of PHP in 2022.
This means you are no longer able to create new projects using those version of PHP on violinist.io.
There are still projects that are set to target PHP 7.0 and 7.1 on violinist.io, and they will of course continue working until we drop support entirely. This will likely happen within a year (in 2022) and will be communicated to the affected project owners via email.
Lastly, let’s all just say thanks to the PHP maintainers, and the first 2 versions of PHP 7. They have treated us well these years, but it’s time to move on.
