Cracking the Code: Step 2— LinkedIn Profile Update

TLDR: This is the 2nd of the 8 steps in my journey of networking, interviewing, and landing my dream job during layoffs. So stay tuned!

Here are some key factors that contributed to enhancing my LinkedIn profile:

1. Profile picture — Ensure you have a semi-professional photo instead of leaving it blank.
2. Bio — Craft a compelling bio that aids LinkedIn’s algorithm in ranking your profile higher. Consider structuring it like this: Current role @ Company/University | Top 3 skills | I help… (For instance: My previous headline was: Software Developer @ AWS | Java, Python, Fullstack | I help FinTech companies reduce manual effort by more than 35%). This technique, known to improve rankings, might be worth a shot.
3. About you — Draft a succinct, 3-line summary offering a glimpse of your background. You can even reuse the one from your resume.
4. Updated experience and projects —Align these sections with your resume. I personally used a similar approach, almost copying and pasting the content.
5. Skills— Highlight your top ten skills and arrange them in order of importance. Garner endorsements from colleagues, as recruiters tend to focus on these highlighted skills.
6. Recommendations — Stand out by requesting recommendations from previous managers, colleagues, and project teammates.
7. Interests — Although not very impactful, following companies through this section could catch the attention of certain recruiters.

Tip: Navigate to the company’s page, access the “About” tab, and then scroll down to locate the “Interested in working for our company?” segment. Click on “I’m interested”. This focused action streamlines the search process for recruiters, enabling them to identify individuals keen on joining the company, eliminating the need for them to actively search.
