Silk sarees are perhaps the most valued and prized possession for every Indian woman out there! The sheer grandeur that is associated with silk sarees makes them one of the most coveted attire in every Indian household. And once you shop for silk sarees online, you simply go ecstatic over flaunting them to your acquaintances. But as the party lights fade out and you return to your home, exhausted and jaded by after-party effects, do you really care for your silk sarees?

Silk sarees require extensive after-care if you really wish them to last long. You can pass these exquisite sarees on to your next generation only when you care for them genuinely. Otherwise, in no time, these sarees will lose their grandeur and shine.

Below mentioned are the top tips offered by some of the most renowned fashion experts that will allow you to preserve and maintain your precious silk sarees. Have a look!

  • Wrap them up: Always wrap each of your silk sarees separately in newspapers or a piece of cotton cloth. This prevents unnecessary friction between the saree fabrics.
  • Fresh air: Every three months or so, expose the silk sarees to fresh air and natural sunlight. But ensure that you do not expose the sarees to direct sunlight. Place them in a shady, airy place for a couple of hours. And then fold them back properly and wrap inside a newspaper or cotton clothe and keep them inside the wardrobe.
  • No sun drying: Once you have washed these delicate nine yards of garments, dry them in a shady area. Bringing them to direct contact with harsh sunlight can lead to the gradual fading of colours. Also, the fabric eventually loses its durability.
  • Say no to iron hangers: If you are planning on hanging your silk sarees inside your wardrobe using iron hangers, then you need to rethink your decision. Iron hangers will always end up staining your gorgeous silk sarees. So, it is better to replace the iron hangers with plastic ones.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals: You must never use harsh soaps and detergents to wash your silk sarees. Always wash your silk sarees after wearing them just once. Otherwise, sweat stains may ruin the entire saree. And always use silk-fabric-friendly, mild detergents to wash the sarees.
  • Cold water to the rescue: Remember that silk sarees are averse to hot water. So, you should always wash them in cold water. Otherwise, your prized possession will soon be in shreds! Hot water tends to affect the delicate silk fabric.
  • Use medium heat while ironing: While ironing your favourite silk saree, always use medium heat.

Wrapping up!

Do you still wonder how your mother’s silk saree is still intact and exudes nothing but elegance? It is because she has put in years of effort in taking care of those sarees and saving them up for you! So next time you buy silk saree online, keep these after-care tips in mind. Remember that a well-maintained, neat and clean, ironed silk saree can make you look like a million bucks!
