Introducing Viridis: Enhanced Recycling Value-Chain on Cardano Blockchain
As much as many have heard of blockchain, it looks like the mainstream activities are cognizance of the negative news, report, or Ponzi schemes that fuel the selfish needs of some individuals. This is not surprising; we face individuals who want to take advantage of honest players for their selfish gains in many aspects of our lives and different sectors of the economy.
Nevertheless, there is also a range of decentralized solutions blockchain offer to the many challenges of our time. Viridis is leading a recycling initiative in Morocco by establishing a committed decentralized community of field networks of collectives, NGOs, and small processing facilities to be able to optimize supply chain issues.
Viridis is using Blockchain to contribute to what has become a major problem in the 21st Century. Plastic waste is increasing as more consumables are packaged with plastic. Many studies point out that [lack of] recycling is not a technical issue, but more a result of inefficient supply chains and discouraged collectors. It is estimated that 2.5 million plastic bottles are thrown away every hour. By recycling a plastic bottle, we reduce potential emissions by double its weight and avoid the more harmful impact of plastic trash on land and oceans.
We can’t just stop using plastic materials. Our lifestyle depends on them: How water and aliments quality could be preserved? Although plastic wastes contribute to our environmental problems, they also provide some usefulness. Banning plastics may seem a simple solution, but the complexity is a matter of bread and better especially in developing countries.
Our team seeks to build a network of plastic collectors using a DApp to track and distribute incentives. Recycling provides an opportunity for plastics to get second use hence reducing the environmental impact of pollution caused by single usage plastics. The second use of plastic bottles has a value chain by providing sustainable raw plastics to the market.
Viridis uses blockchain to contribute to solving the hard problem of plastic, led by a team of young entrepreneurs from Morocco and Ghana. once launched, our platform would allow Moroccans to participate in the value chain of recycling plastic waste for reward. We aim to provide incentives and boost the income of recyclers as well as add value to the Cardano ecosystem.
In the following blog posts, we will introduce the system architecture and provide more details on how Viridis would work, and what are the opportunities for field networks of collectors.
