Fenty Beauty by Rihanna- The New Generation of #Beauty
The internet and whole beauty community went crazy when on September 8 at midnight,the international superstar Rihanna dropped her highly anticipated makeup line ‘Fenty Beauty’. Fenty Beauty initially announced its launch on May 31 saying “coming fall 2017” and everyone has been counting down the days until the launch since then. Rihanna held a launch party in New York City on September 7th and invited popular beauty influencers such as JeffreeStar, MannyMua, Laura Lee, and Carli Bybel. These influencers posted sneak peeks of the collection all over Snapchat and posted Youtube videos in the following days reviewing the whole makeup line. Jeffree Star’s “Fenty Beauty by Rihanna..Hit or Miss” Youtube video received over 5 million views in just four days and Laura Lee’s review has over 1.2 million views in two days. These trending videos on Youtube prove that fans are interested in seeing if the famous singer’s cosmetic line is any good and worth purchasing.
In Rihanna’s first release of new products, she focused mostly on a wide selection of face products such as foundations and highlighters and has yet to release any eye products. As of right now the collection includes a primer, foundation, concealer, contour shades, highlighter, powder, lipgloss, and some brushes and tools. One aspect of the line that caught people’s attention was the wide range of colors shades Rihanna was offering. The foundation has an astonishing 40 shades while the concealers and contours have 20 shades each. This collection is sold online at fentybeauty.com and online and in store at Sephora.
Since this makeup line had a lot of anticipation and excitement surrounding it, everyone was excited to see if the products and formulas were any good. Overall, the reviews surrounding this line have been mostly positive with some critiques here and there. The standout products so far have been the flawless looking “Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation”flawless and the blinding “Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter” especially the pure gold highlight, “trophy wife”. The small brushes, blotting paper, and lip gloss in this line are the products people are saying could improve. Customers are also noticing the color scheme of this line and the packaging is similar to the KKW beauty contour sticks, however, the nude pink color is in trend right now and we will be seeing a lot more of it. Many influencers are seeing this line as a success and are excited for the new products she will be releasing soon.
Rihanna’s main goal when creating this line was to make sure women of all colors could find products that work for them. In an interview, Rihanna states “Fenty Beauty was created for everyone: for women of all shades, personalities, attitudes, cultures, and races. I wanted everyone to feel included, that’s the real reason I made this line.” Rihanna was definitely successful in including everyone in her makeup line because her 40 shade range foundation will match a lot of skin tones. Rihanna even has plans to extend the color selection and bring out more shades. On Sephora’s website there is a three step system laid out for all the products and Rihanna explains this by saying “These steps are key to starting your makeup, no matter the look you are going for”.
