U.S. House candidate Greg Casar and his Partner

Texas, USA is a film that gives hope for democracy. The film follows three 2022 political campaigns for then-candidates Greg Casar, Lina Hidalgo, Beto O’Rourke, Dallas-based organizer Brianna Brown (of the Texas Organizing Project), and organizers and activists who work every day for change in a Republican-controlled state. Written and directed by Andrew Morgan, the film takes viewers on a compelling journey through a political campaign, showing the intentional work, patience, and resilience it takes to work for change.

Judge Lina Hidalgo

Texas, USA, travels throughout Texas following three diverse, progressive candidates determined to turn Texas from red to purple in 2024. Judge Lina Hidalgo was running for re-election as the county judge of Harris County, the third most populus county in the United States. Judge Hidalgo campaigned on criminal justice reform and flood control, and her passion and resilience are inspiring.

Brianna Brown

Brianna Brown, co-executive director of the Texas organizing project- Dallas, Texas, is the heart of this documentary. We follow her journey throughout the state as she and her team work, going door to door to canvas for democratic candidates while organizing by reaching out to over 1.4 million Black voters in 2022. The documentary states that Ms. Brown and her team have organized the most extensive outreach to Black voters in Texas history. The series shows how close Texas Democrats are to turning the tables and getting Democrats elected.

Adri Pérez

Trans rights advocate from Austin, Texas, Adri Pérez, is tireless in their organizing opposition to the relentless barrage of cruel anti-trans legislation that Texas Republicans are pushing through the state legislature.

Beto listens.

Writer/director Andrew Morgan presents clear storylines that hold the viewers’ attention, touch the heart, and inspire action. Texas, USA, is a beacon of hope in a political climate where toxic conservative voices seem to have so much power.

4 out of 5 stars.
