Spring Break 2014
Sometimes a short break is all that is needed.
2014 has been a very different year so far. Things have changed quite a bit. I’m a second semester freshman at the University of Maryland. However, at this exact time last year, I was a senior in high school who was still unsure about where he was going to college. I’d say college is definitely more stressful than high school, but it is definitely a time where you are able to get out of your comfort zone and gain new and drastically different experiences in life.
With more freedom comes more responsibility. This year I am living at college, which is, in my opinion, an experience everyone must have at least once. I would definitely say this semester is much more difficult than last semester. My first semester of college was a bit of a tease. Days off, and late classes often made me sleep in till 11 or 12, feeling extremely unproductive. In contrast, this semester I have 8 am classes three days a week! Now, it is the middle of March. Although I feel like time is flying, at the same time I cannot wait for this semester to be over. Things are heating up. Round 1 of midterms just finished before spring break, and now round 2 will be coming in about 2 weeks for me. I’m glad spring break got here soon enough because I certainly would not be able to handle waiting till April like I did in high school.
I definitely love going places. But this spring break my only plan is to take it easy. Last winter break was probably the best break I’ve had in a while. We went to Las Vegas and Miami!

As I was saying, I had one of the best winter breaks in a while. One of the good things about college: you get a month long winter break. Going back to the pictures, we stayed at the Bellagio for half of our time in Vegas, and at the Palazzo for the other half. We also saw Penn & Teller and the “O” show by Cirque du Soleil. The atmosphere in Vegas was like no other.

Miami was something else. While Maryland got tons of snow, Miami was 70 degrees everyday! The hotel was very nice and I enjoyed the Vegas like atmosphere of Miami. Lamborghinis, and Rolls Royces were a normal sight in downtown. We also took a boat cruise from Biscayne Bay to see celebrity homes in places like Fisher Island.
In contrast, this spring break is definitely more calm. Unwinding from school is always nice. While I love to travel, sometimes a short break to just relax and do whatever I want is also nice. Catching up/getting ahead on schoolwork is also one of my plans. Moreover, what I’m trying to say is, sometimes it is good to take a break from an actual vacation as well.
Miami was a rather short flight — roughly 2 hours! Las Vegas on the other hand was 5 and a half hours! Glad we got exit row seats though. One day I really do hope that people are able to travel without hassle. Just hop on a plane a few minutes before hand, and fly. But, till then we have tons of security measures, which I understand the necessity of, but I hope one day everything can be sped up.
