Whenever I ask about laws found in Torah that Evangelical Christians choose not to observe, I am told that Jesus erased the obligation to follow those laws. This always leaves me wondering which laws are still obligatory, which laws are revoked, and how that line was drawn. Taking the laws of Kashrut (pertaining to kosher eating) as an example, my understanding is that those were rescinded by Christianity after the death of Jesus in order to attract non-Jews, who routinely ate non-kosher foods. In other words, that particular line was drawn as a concession to gentiles meant to increase the ranks of the early church: a political choice, not a theological one.
