Alibaug is a small town on the west coast of Maharashtra, situated in the Konkan region of Raigad district. It is close to Mumbai’s well-known metro. Mumbai to Alibaug Ferry service is available from Mumbai Gateway of India on daily basis. Alibaug translates to “Garden of Ali”. Ali is said to have planted a large number of mango and coconut trees. Shivaji Maharaj designed and built this structure in the 17th century. It was designated as a ‘Taluka’ in 1852. Israeli Jews from Beni also live in Alibaug.

Alibaug, known as the “Goa of Maharashtra”, is surrounded by the sea on three sides and has numerous magnificent beaches. The entire region looks like a tropical beach, with coconut and betel trees lining all the shores. The weather is good and the beaches are almost undeveloped. The air is clean and fresh and the views of the beaches are breathtaking.

The cuisine of Alibaug is based on fish as it is a coastal town. Apart from pomfret and savory dishes, sole curry is a popular dish here. Alibaug’s beaches are ideal for a fun weekend with friends and family, where you can stroll along the shore, play in the water or watch the sunset over the sea from a distance in the evening.
