Type Design Journal — Part 9

My first font ever was finally released on Myfonts! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, check my previous stories, where I have been sharing a bit about the process of designing it. It was over a year in the making and it taught me a lot.
It’s still feels a bit overwhelming to see it published with my name and also with the name of my foundry SevenType on the Myfonts website.

Kamila was a difficult typeface, especially for someone like me, who was designing her very first typeface. Script typefaces are especially tough because you have to make every letter combinations work, so that they all connect smoothly. But, having a good challenge also makes everything more interesting!

With just a few days of being released, Kamila was already chosen as a Staff Pick on Myfonts and it was also featured on the Coffee Table Typography Newsletter. You will have to subscribe to the newsletter if you want to find out more, but it will be worth reading. It’s an interesting and well-written newsletter.

Today, Lorin and Eleni talked a bit about it on the Typography Dojo live session and also about my experience within the Alphabettes Mentorship Program, which I can only recommend.
If you want to find more about Kamila you can do it here. It will be on sale until the end of the month.

If you read my previous story, you will already know that I’m already working on the next script typeface and I will continue to write about its process.
